We have landed: ForeverMap is in the App Store in the US and Canada

A small step for the App Store, a huge step for us.

The iOS North America Edition of ForeverMap is live in the US and Canada for iPhone, iPod and iPad. It gives people the chance to get orientation without the necessity of a data connection anywhere they are. It’s available at an introductory price of $0.99 for a limited time only. Find out more and watch the video trailer now.

This version is actually the most-advanced of our OSM-powered map app to this date and gives people a glance on what to expect from the next update of the European version, which will be available very shortly.

As we’ve put a lot of thought into our new app description, I can’t think of a better way to sum the app up. So here it is (make sure, you click on the screenshots below):

ForeverMap by Skobbler brings you the most comprehensive offline mapping solution available on iOS. Fully interactive city and state maps, covering all of North America, with you always, whether you’re online or offline.

Address search, location finder, route calculation and loads of information on places of interest provided by Wikipedia, are just a few of ForeverMap’s key features – all of which are fully functional WITHOUT a data connection!

Offline orientation means you’ll never again be dependant on a data connection to get to where you want to go. No more roaming charges. No more waiting around for maps to load. Just rich, dependable, reliable maps whenever you need them, on any device. In addition to being a complete iPhone mapping solution, ForeverMap also turns iPod touches and Wi-Fi iPads into fully-fledged mapping devices!

To get started, hop on a WiFi network, download as many city or state maps as you’d like, and use them anywhere and everywhere – all without ever worrying about staying connected. Because of advanced map compression technology, you can easily store several state or even country maps on your device for unlimited and unconnected map access!

ForeverMap brings you the world by tapping into OpenStreetMap data (the Wikipedia of maps – http://www.openstreetmap.org) and keeps your maps updated on a regular basis, free of charge!

ForeverMap, the only map you’ll ever need, includes:
– Access to OpenStreetMap maps for all of North America
– Easy-to-use Filters
– Completely installable and uninstallable maps for countries, states and cities
– Routes for pedestrians and cars
– Offline search for locations
– Wikipedia information for thousands of bars, restaurants, theatres, and other points of interest
– IdeaLog for your suggestions on future improvements
– Current position finder
– Compass functionality
– Bookmarks/Favorites
– Retina display for applicable devices and much much more!

  1. Please add my voice to the request to have ForeverMap Europe for iPad available in the US App Store. I would gladly pay for it as a separate app.

  2. Just downloaded ForeverMap for my iPad 2 and love it.

One question — As I travel to Sweden regularly, is there any hope of having European maps available on the Apple App Store version of ForeverMap? It’s great as long as I restrict my travels to Canada and Mexico, but it would be GREAT to be able to stroll around Stockholm with my iPad and not need to roam onto Telia’s 3G network…

    Thanks!

  3. Hi,

I use the Europe maps and love them, but it would be great to be able to get the US maps for when I travel there.

    Brendan.

  4. We’ll definitely add new countries to ForeverMap for the US. We’ll rather offer them through updates for the existing apps though. Offering both the European and the US apps in both American and European App Stores would lead to very limited visibility of the respective international versions.

  5. I have to agree with the other commenters. One of the main reasons you need an offline map viewer is because you’re traveling! If I live in North America don’t you think it might be useful to have the European maps available from the store?

  6. Would love to see a version for worldwide use. I travel all the time and live in New Zealand, this looks like a great offline map program but having a European and a Nth America version is very limiting.

  7. Why aren’t all maps already included? They all use OSM and I can’t see any technical limitations for why the US version shouldnt include European maps, and the other way around. Furthermore, it’s when abroad most people need an offline map.

  8. @all:
We’ll introduce a download option for additional maps in the respective versions in future updates. Please stay tuned.

  9. Is it possible to download the maps through a high speed wired connection and then sync the maps across rather than trying to download the massive map files wirelessly? Also, is there any optino to only download particular cities rather than whole countries?

  10. @Sean:
Yes, that is possible. After having bought our ForeverMap, please proceed as follows:

    1. Start iTunes
    2. Connect your iPhone to the computer
    3. Go to your iPhone and then to “Synchronize apps”
    4. Scroll down to the bottom, there should be an option like “Data release – with the Apps mentioned below you can exchange documents with your iPhone and computer”
    5. ForeverMap should appear –> click on it and next to that, go to “insert”/”implement”
    6. Then please indicate the data path where you saved the maps
    7. Start the synchronizing process
    8. Validate the installation on your iPhone (press “OK”)
    9. Depending on the size of the maps, it might take a while until the synch process is finished. After that, all maps will be on your iPhone.

If you use a mac book for the synch process, please make sure that in Safari –> Seetings –> “Open secure data after loading” (or similar) is not chosen. If you use a Windows computer, please do not unzip the data package downloaded.

For further questions, please always check the skobbler Forum, too. Lots of people discuss our programs there and specific questions will be answered.

    Best regards,
    Christin
